Have you heard of Patreon? It’s a crowdfunding site that is kind of like Kickstarter but instead of a one time donation Patrons pledging to donate monthly or in some cases per project. It’s a way to supplement (or eventually replace) income to allow for more freedom to create art and content which is why I joined patreon.
I love what I do. I love building my own website, creating helpful content, creating original art, and working for myself. It’s a dream come true but it’s hard. I’m still working full-time at a job I hate and leaves me exhausted at the end of the day. The hours are irregular and the pay is unpredictable which leaves little financial security. As much as I would love to be one of those people who can take a risk and quit their job to pursue their passion, it’s just not feasible for me.
I created a Patreon page because I think art should be accessible to everyone and with Patreon supplementing my income I can create art and content for my website more freely without having to charge as much (if anything at all.) That means ebooks, worksheets, printables, art cards, videos, and all kinds of other goodies that I will be able to create without having to worry about my day job taking up valuable time. It also means I would be able to upgrade my equipment to make not only more content, but better quality content. It’s a win all around!
So what would you get out of it by supporting me on Patreon?
As a patron, you get to choose how much you pledge each month and depending on how much that is, you get certain rewards. At the most basic level, patrons receive access to an exclusive feed with sneak peeks and updates. Further up there are free personalized items, monthly google hangouts, monthly art cards, and a lot more.
Plus, you would be helping me achieve my goal of quitting my day job and becoming an artist full-time!
So, if you have a moment I would appreciate it if you took a look at my Patreon page and shared it with your friends and family. There’s no pressure at all to pledge/donate, unless you want to! I just want to create and share my art with the world and Patreon is a way for me to do so with more freedom.
Thanks for reading about why I joined Patreon and supporting creativity! You're super awesome!
