Every Friday, I like to feature a different artist and their work. Sometimes you’ll even see my own artwork featured. It’s a nice way to get to know different artists, their creative process, and the story behind some of their works of art.
It’s Friday Art Crawl!
This week’s artist is Heather Skau of Catch a Star Fine Art Photography. She is a photographer based in southwest Florida.
Ever since a young age, Heather has shown a creative streak and her obsession with black and white photography and film development started around the bright young age of 11. She uses art as a creative release, stress reliever and a source of inspiration.
“My travel and exploration of new areas is enhanced by capturing it with my camera. I enjoy using art as a way to see things in a new light. Whether I'm concentrating on form and texture with black and white works, or enjoying the variety of vivid colors the human eye can take in, there is always something new to explore with photography, and I'm always challenged and inspired. “
When her own children were born, Heather started documenting as much of their lives as possible which eventually inspired her to open her own portrait studio geared toward children and families.
“Art, specifically photographic art, feels like an extension of myself and the way I see the world. My work captures my evolution and growth, and shows what caught my attention and passion at a given time.”
Throughout the many years of portrait and wedding photography has honed her skills which led to a concentration in fine art prints.
“I start with what draws me in. I try to capture it multiple ways, and from unexpected perspectives. I challenge myself to see things in a unique way so that I can share that with others. I work hard to capture things as perfectly as possible in camera, then use editing software as needed to enhance and reveal the beauty of the item.”
Heather’s online store has many beautiful photographic prints available with a mostly nature theme. She even offers pillows and phone cases to showcase her work.
